Jill and I decided to start our walk at Fangs Brow, and the walk evolved as we went along.... The start of our walk, Darling Fell is the high ground in the distance. Looking back as we walked the track, Fangs Brow Farm comes into view. In the distance the sun shines on the Solway Plain, and Criffel in Scotland rises above the Solway on the opposite shore. These ewes have been busy , as the dye on their rear ends indicate ! The farming year continues it's cycle.... The cloud capped fells on the far side of Crummock are Grasmoor and Whiteless Pike.
Jill photographs the view over Loweswater. The village of Mockerkin behind enjoys a little sunshine . Holme Woods are still impressive in their winter colours on the southern side of Loweswater. We take the top path on the slope of Burnbank Fell. What started as a wide grassy path after the stile, faded into a sheep trod at this point. We dropped down to the beck below, then decided to ascend Carling Knott, the fell with a small cap of mist on it's summit directly in front of us.
Myself, Harry and Bethan at the summit. Jill starting the steep descent. We drop out of the mist and Loweswater comes into view.
The cloud settles to form a line across the fells, although Grasmoor summit is still visible. Jill enjoys the view from the bench on the coffin track on our return route. I take her place with Harry and Bethan, for this final photo, as Grasmoor disappears into the clouds.
