The morning had started cloudy but with the forecast for a sunny afternoon. So after a leisurely morning we set off on a local walk after lunch.
Carling Knott from the small car park at Maggie's Bridge at the start of our walk. Jill moisturising before set off !!!! The hay was cut and drying in the sun as we passed though the High Nook farm meadows. The blue waters of Loweswater peeking through as we continue up the track. Darling Fell is the high ground in the distance. High Nook farmyard - a classic upland Lakeland farm. At the top of the track and out of the trees, the view opens up to reveal Whiteside, Hopebeck Head and Grasmoor with Mellbreak on the far right. Sunlight on High Nook Tarn. Harry is hoping for a stick but they are very short supply up here, something he always fails to comprehend ! Swimming on the other hand is very much on the agenda. Bethan enjoying the water in the dappled sunlight.
Nothing better than a dual roll in the bracken and grass, to dry off after a swim ! Looking back to the path that leads above Holme Woods on the other side of the valley but we're not going that way today. We're going right up and into White Oak Beck Valley
The grassy path above White Oak Beck, with Hen Comb summit across the valley.
The path ends rather abruptly in a very boggy area, so we turn around at this point and start on our way back Low Fell is to the left above the gate. Mark Weir from Honister Mine flies above Grasmoor on his way back to Mosser. He appears to be transporting a load below the helicopter today.
A lovely blue sky afternoon, Grasmoor and Mellbreak on our walk back. Another view of Loweswater with Darling and Low Fell as a backdrop. By the time we returned the hay, seen drying earlier, had been baled and wrapped ready for storage ! - - - o o o - - - |
