Walk details : Very easy ... no distance. Highest point : I'll let you chose ! Weather : Clear skies, nice sunset, very warm evening with a very warm breeze. |
While I was building the greenhouse a few years back lots of you passed nice comments our direction about the garden and the plants. Tonight I decided to take the camera out again and capture the garden for you, as of the last day of June 2015. Evening sun on the log at the top of the garden. Ann's old boots have new flowers and the oregano plant has grown tall, such that the view of the foxgloves is almost hidden.
My smallish raised bed is full . . . with many of the plants which have been started in the greenhouse earlier in the year. After a harsh winter prune, the soft fruit has developed nicely. Blackcurrants, raspberries and loganberries are all setting fruit . . . but I'm sure they are slower than normal this year.
The blooms deserve a second photo. Our Loweswater Puffins are ageing (as we are). I think they are suffering the classic 'Dorian Grey' symptom . . . as we feel younger, they are looking older. The other one is hiding amongst the creepers. He has a shorter beak . . . courtesy of Bethan many years ago. Time for some renovations in the near future.
I will need to divide up the plants at the end of the season and open the bed out a bit more. Our local red squirrel visits occasionally . . . sadly less frequently . . . but he/she is around nevertheless. This picture has been added this morning (Thurs 2nd) Flag Irises are in bloom, the delicate markings aimed at the insects . . . not me. A new wildlife corner has some meadow-flower seeds added earlier in the year. Now I can't tell what is flower and what is weed . . . still a cut of the grass and few minutes work should sort it out. The cold Spring didn't do my runner beans any good . . . they are still playing catch-up with the season. Likewise this courgette plant. It started out in the greenhouse but now outside, at last it has started to sprout shoots and flower buds. Four spare spinach plants are trying to fill the pot alongside it.
Inside the tomato plants are gradually being re-potted into larger containers. More line the top shelf but they'll be hitting the glass soon so time to drop them down a level.
Later on, with darker skies, photography of the moon was clearer. Hope you enjoyed our local views. The view of the planet close together will still be visible for a few nights by the way. - - - o o o - - -
POST SCRIPT : It is with sadness that we have to report the passing of Jo's dog Jodie tonight. Jodie was a beautiful, gentle dog and had a wonderful life, cared for till the end by Jo. She lived to the ripe old age of nearly 15, which for a Lurcher was pretty good. We've shared the fells many times over recent years and we'll miss her not being with Jo any more. - - - o o o - - - |
